Cemetery Item Removal

The Cemetery Department will be removing all items that do not meet the article below from the City of Laurinburg Ordinance.  Please see the article below more information.

Sec. 10-181. Placing certain articles upon plots.

“It shall be unlawful for any person to place upon any plot in any city cemetery any trinket, toy, shell, flower (except in approved receptacles), vase, glass jar, tin can, sand, artificial material, temporary marker after one year, cross, flag, flag pole or any other article which, in the opinion of the city manger or his designee, is unsightly or hazardous to lawn maintenance.  Notwithstanding the foregoing, American flags which do not extend upward more than 24 inches and do not touch the ground may be placed on a plot for a period of two weeks (beginning one week before and ending one week after) the following holidays: Memorial Day, Independence Day (July 4), and Veterans’ Day.  If any article shall be placed upon any plot in violation of this section or shall remain thereon in violation of this section, the city shall have the authority to remove the article, without notice, and the city shall not be responsible for any loss or destruction thereof.  (Code 1987, & 6-114; Ord.
