Cemetery

The Cemetery Department is responsible for three cemeteries – Cedar Grove, Old Hillside and Hillside Memorial Park. Selling of plots, establishing and maintaining records and the usual grounds work are a few duties of the Cemetery Department.

We only sale spaces at Hillside Memorial Park (located on US Hwy. 401 Bypass). We have limited upright marker sections, flat marker sections which the markers must be level with the ground, a cremation section and a baby section. Prices for cemetery spaces, burial permits and marker/monument permits can be found in the Fee Schedule.

In order for crews to maintain the cemeteries properly, the City Council has adopted an ordinance that allows only flowers in approved vases to be placed on graves. No trinkets, toys, glass jars, rocks, stones, flags or flag poles, tin cans or other similar items can be placed on a grave. However, American flags which do not extend upward more than 24 inches and do not touch the ground can be placed on a grave for a period of two weeks (beginning one week before and one ending one week after) the following holidays: Memorial Day, Independence Day (July 4th) and Veterans’ Day. For more information concerning our cemetery regulations, see Chapter 10 of the City Code.   If you have any questions, please contact the Cemetery Department at (910) 276-8324.
